The Cults of Spiritualism and Spiritism Exposed

Kraig J. Rice

On Sunday morning, March 30, 2008, the Lord started dealing with me in the Spirit. He impressed upon me that there was a lot of confusion going on and that I was to minister in this area. I was not expecting this and I started scratching my head as to just exactly what the Lord had in mind because what He told me was kind of general. I realized: what could be more confusing than folks who label themselves as "Christians"- who are supposed to be obedient to Jesus Christ and His Word- to go around believing and teaching the doctrines of devils. So this is what lead me to pen this document in the hopes I could reach someone who was confused, or about to turn away from Christ, or to reach someone who had already done so to bring them back.

In 1967, right after I was saved and filled with the Holy Spirit, I was walking in downtown Norfolk, Virginia. I saw a building there with a sign on it that read: "Church of Jesus Christ of Divine Healing." "Wow," I thought, "this must be another Pentecostal church" and went inside of the building. I was instantly greeted by the leader of this group who was very friendly, but instantly told me that this was not a pentecostal church but a spiritualist church. A woman came over to us and told me proudly that they had just called Abraham Lincoln back from the dead and communed with him. Inside of my heart I had an unusual feeling. I can only describe this feeling as "a Holy Spirit repulsion" and I knew I was in the wrong place. This place belonged to the devil and I knew it in my spirit but my head was only beginning to catch on and I left there as quick as I could.

Just what is the doctrine of devils? In a nut-shell it is false belief. Is that dangerous? Yes, very much so. Why? Because the false belief offers another way of salvation rather than through the blood of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven
(John 14:6).

Beware of any individual who claims to have a "new meaning" of God's Word and that they are the only person alive who understands the real mysteries of the universe. This is a lie. This is the pride of life like Eve in the Garden of Eden reaching for the forbidden fruit in the hope of reaching god-hood. Many of these kinds of individuals find it easy to cross the line from science to spiritualism where they find an encounter with the devil to be a powerful event in their life. Then that person plunges deeper and deeper into the world of the occult. He or she obtains certain gifts from the devil- gifts used to help deceive other people. These evil spirits will communicate with that person and the more he or she dabbles in spiritualism, the more the spirits will reveal. Then that person puts his or her faith in those spirits. Satan gets the worship that he craves. Then that person gets convinced that those spirits have chosen him or her as a messenger to the world. The messages he or she receives become more and more un-biblical as he or she is lead down a spiritually dangerous path. This path leads to cultic doctrine that casts doubt on God's Holy Bible.

The Bible teaches that there are 2 different roads or pathways. Stay on the spiritual road of obedience to God. The other spiritual road leads to destruction. Here is what the Bible warns:

"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat"
(Matthew 7:13).

"Do not rely on mediums and psychics, for you will be defiled by them. I, the LORD, am your God"
(Leviticus 19:31).

"So why are you trying to find out the future by consulting mediums and psychics? Do not listen to their whisperings and mutterings. Can the living find out the future from the dead? Why not ask your God? "Check their predictions against my testimony," says the LORD. "If their predictions are different from mine, it is because there is no light or truth in them"
(Isaiah 8:19-21).

People act strangely different after they get sucked into the occult. They can really act weird in many ways. The evil spirit world is bad news for any true Christian and if you are traveling down this pathway I recommend that you get off of it back onto God's pathway. In that lifestyle you will encounter unbiblical words of theology. When one dabbles in that spirit world one gets caught in a web of deceit. Some knowledge is strictly forbidden by God to you because God loves you too much for you to build your life on a lie. God's Word is the truth. Rely on God rather than on what some spiritual cultic teacher might say. Put your hand in the hand of Jesus and walk with Him down His pathway that leads to truth and freedom.

If you live in the continental United States you can purchase good books on cults at your local Christian book store. However, if you are a foreign national from another country you may not have ready access to this material. In that case you can view it here.

The good Lord has raised up a number of very good "Cult Busters" in the past. Several have written books now out of print in regards to Spiritualism and Spiritism false doctrine. Take a look at these pages if you are interested in these subjects.
