Prophecies Concerning Jesus Christ
(doctrine of mainline Christianity)

This Bible Study is in a little different kind of format than my previous Bible Studies as the truths listed below are inserted into tables. Jesus Christ taught the truths listed below to His own personal disciples. That is why it is important for you and I to study these truths.

Here you will find the prophetic truth about Jesus Christ as seen in the Holy Scriptures (the Bible). This study is only a portion of the study on Christology, which is the study about Jesus Christ.

INTRODUCTION

Jesus Christ wanted His followers (including you and me) to be aware of the Old Testament scriptures that pertained to Him. Why? To help strengthen our faith so that we will have eternal life.
31 "But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life."
(John 20:31) (New Living Translation or NLT).

Here's the true story of why I say what I say.

12 "Afterward he appeared to two who were walking from Jerusalem into the country, but they didn't recognize him at first because he had changed his appearance.

13 When they realized who he was, they rushed back to tell the others, but no one believed them"
(Mark 16:12 & 13)

The Walk to Emmaus:
13"That same day two of Jesus' followers were walking to the village of Emmaus, seven miles out of Jerusalem.

14As they walked along they were talking about everything that had happened.

15Suddenly, Jesus himself came along and joined them and began walking beside them.

16But they didn't know who he was, because God kept them from recognizing him.

17"You seem to be in a deep discussion about something," he said. "What are you so concerned about?" They stopped short, sadness written across their faces.

18Then one of them, Cleopas, replied, "You must be the only person in Jerusalem who hasn't heard about all the things that have happened there the last few days."

19"What things?" Jesus asked. "The things that happened to Jesus, the man from Nazareth," they said. "He was a prophet who did wonderful miracles. He was a mighty teacher, highly regarded by both God and all the people.

20But our leading priests and other religious leaders arrested him and handed him over to be condemned to death, and they crucified him.

21We had thought he was the Messiah who had come to rescue Israel. That all happened three days ago.

22Then some women from our group of his followers were at his tomb early this morning, and they came back with an amazing report.

23They said his body was missing, and they had seen angels who told them Jesus is alive!

24Some of our men ran out to see, and sure enough, Jesus' body was gone, just as the women had said."

25Then Jesus said to them,
"You are such foolish people! You find it so hard to believe all that the prophets wrote in the Scriptures.

26Wasn't it clearly predicted by the prophets that the Messiah would have to suffer all these things before entering his time of glory?"

27Then Jesus quoted passages from the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining what all the Scriptures said about himself."
(Luke 24:13-27)

Note: I do not have all of the prophecies here, but only a few select ones.

The Prophetic Truths About The Birth of Jesus Christ:

Jesus Christ is eternally existent

Old Testament Before the mountains were created, before you made the earth and the world, you are God, without beginning or end
(Psalms 90:2).

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village in Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past
(Micah 5:2).

New Testament In the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God
(John 1:1).

Jesus Christ would be a descendant of Abraham

Old Testament I will bless those who bless you (Abraham) and curse those who curse you. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you
(Genesis 12:3).
New Testament This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of King David and of Abraham
(Matthew 1:1).

Jesus Christ would be a descendant of Isaac

Old Testament But God replied, Sarah, your wife, will bear you a son. You will name him Isaac, and I will confirm my everlasting covenant with him and his descendants
(Genesis 17:19).
New Testament Judah was the son of Jacob. Jacob was the son of Isaac. Isaac was the son of Abraham. Abraham was the son of Terah. Terah was the son of Nahor
(Luke 3:34).

Jesus Christ would be a descendant of Jacob

Old Testament I see him, but not in the present time. I perceive him, but far in the distant future. A star will rise from Jacob; a scepter will emerge from Israel. It will crush the foreheads of Moab's people, cracking the skulls of the people of Sheth
(Numbers 24:17).
New Testament Abraham was the father of Isaac. Isaac was the father of Jacob. Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers
(Matthew 1:2).

Jesus Christ would be a descendant of Jesse

Old Testament In that day the heir to David's throne [the root of Jesse] will be a banner of salvation to all the world. The nations will rally to him, for the land where he lives will be a glorious place
(Isaiah 11:10).
New Testament And the prophet Isaiah said, The heir to David's throne [in Greek The root of Jesse] will come, and he will rule over the Gentiles. They will place their hopes on him
(Romans 15:12).

Jesus Christ would be a descendant of King David

Old Testament For the time is coming, says the LORD, when I will place a righteous Branch on King David's throne. He will be a King who rules with wisdom. He will do what is just and right throughout the land. And this is his name: `The LORD Is Our Righteousness.' In that day Judah will be saved, and Israel will live in safety
(Jeremiah 23:5-6).
New Testament This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of King David and of Abraham
(Matthew 1:1).

Jesus Christ would be born in Bethlehem

Old Testament 2But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village in Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past
(Micah 5:2).
New Testament Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. O Bethlehem of Judah, you are not just a lowly village in Judah, for a ruler will come from you who will be the shepherd for my people Israel
(Matthew 2:1 and verse 6).

And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David's ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. He took with him Mary, his fianc, who was obviously pregnant by this time. She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the village inn
(Luke 2:4-5 and verse 7).

Jesus Christ would be virgin born

Old Testament All right then, the Lord himself will choose the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel- God is with us
(Isaiah 7:14).

How long will you wander, my wayward daughter? For the LORD will cause something new and different to happen- Israel will embrace her God
(Jeremiah 31:22).

New Testament Now this is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Joseph, her fiance, being a just man, decided to break the engagement quietly, so as not to disgrace her publicly. As he considered this, he fell asleep, and an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. Joseph, son of David," the angel said, do not be afraid to go ahead with your marriage to Mary. For the child within her has been conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins. All of this happened to fulfill the Lord's message through his prophet: Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and he will be called Immanuel (meaning, God is with us)
(Matthew 1:18-23).

In the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David
(Luke 1:26-27).

Jesus Christ would come from the tribe of Judah

Old Testament The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from his descendants, until the coming of the one to whom it belongs, the one whom all nations will obey
(Genesis 49:10).
New Testament What I mean is, our Lord came from the tribe of Judah, and Moses never mentioned Judah in connection with the priesthood
(Hebrews 7:14).

Nahshon was the son of Amminadab. Amminadab was the son of Admin. Admin was the son of Arni. Arni was the son of Hezron. Hezron was the son of Perez. Perez was the son of Judah
(Luke 3:33).

The time would be right for Jesus Christ's birth

Old Testament The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from his descendants, until the coming of the one to whom it belongs, the one whom all nations will obey
(Genesis 49:10).

Now listen and understand! Seven sets of seven plus sixty-two sets of seven will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One comes. Jerusalem will be rebuilt with streets and strong defenses, despite the perilous times
(Daniel 9:25).

New Testament At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire. (This was the first census taken when Quirinius was governor of Syria.) All returned to their own towns to register for this census. And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David's ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. He took with him Mary, his fianc, who was obviously pregnant by this time. And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the village inn
(Luke 2:1-7).

But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law
(Galatians 4:4).

Jesus Christ would be the firstborn son

Old Testament I will make him my firstborn son, the mightiest king on earth
(Psalms 89:27).
New Testament Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before God made anything at all and is supreme over all creation. Christ is the head of the church, which is his body. He is the first of all who will rise from the dead, so he is first in everything
(Colossians 1:15 and verse 18).

Jesus Christ would be visited by wise men

Old Testament The western kings of Tarshish and the islands will bring him tribute. The eastern kings of Sheba and Seba will bring him gifts. All kings will bow before him, and all nations will serve him
(Psalms 72:10-11).
New Testament Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We have seen his star as it arose, and we have come to worship him. They entered the house where the child and his mother, Mary, were, and they fell down before him and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh
(Matthew 2:1-2 and verse 11).

Jesus Christ would be worshipped by shepherds

Old Testament Desert nomads (shepherds) will bow before him; his enemies will fall before him in the dust
(Psalms 72:9).
New Testament That night some shepherds were in the fields outside the village, guarding their flocks of sheep. 9Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord's glory surrounded them. They were terribly frightened, but the angel reassured them. Don't be afraid! he said. I bring you good news of great joy for everyone! The Savior- yes, the Messiah, the Lord- has been born tonight in Bethlehem, the city of David! And this is how you will recognize him: You will find a baby lying in a manger, wrapped snugly in strips of cloth! Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others- the armies of heaven- praising God: Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to all whom God favors. When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, Come on, let's go to Bethlehem! Let's see this wonderful thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about
(Luke 2:8-15).

Jesus Christ would be taken to Egypt as a baby

Old Testament When Israel was a child, I loved him as a son, and I called my son out of Egypt
(Hosea 11:1).
New Testament That night Joseph left for Egypt with the child and Mary, his mother, and they stayed there until Herod's death. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: I called my Son out of Egypt
(Matthew 2:14-15).

There would be a holocaust of the children of Bethlehem in trying to kill baby Jesus

Old Testament This is what the LORD says: A cry of anguish is heard in Ramah- mourning and weeping unrestrained. Rachel weeps for her children, refusing to be comforted- for her children are dead
(Jeremiah 31:15).
New Testament Herod was furious when he learned that the wise men had outwitted him. He sent soldiers to kill all the boys in and around Bethlehem who were two years old and under, because the wise men had told him the star first appeared to them about two years earlier. Herod's brutal action fulfilled the prophecy of Jeremiah: A cry of anguish is heard in Ramah- weeping and mourning unrestrained. Rachel weeps for her children, refusing to be comforted- for they are dead
(Matthew 2:16-18).

Our concern should not be with whether or not God is on our side
but whether we on God's side.

The Prophetic Truths About The First Ministry of Jesus Christ- His First Coming:

Elijah would come before Jesus Christ

Old Testament Look, I am sending you the prophet Elijah before the great and dreadful day of the LORD arrives. His preaching will turn the hearts of parents to their children, and the hearts of children to their parents. Otherwise I will come and strike the land with a curse
(Malachi 4:5-6).
New Testament In those days John the Baptist began preaching in the Judean wilderness. His message was, Turn from your sins and turn to God, because the Kingdom of Heaven is near. Isaiah had spoken of John when he said, He is a voice shouting in the wilderness: Prepare a pathway for the Lord's coming! Make a straight road for him
(Matthew 3:1-3).

Jesus replied, Elijah is indeed coming first to set everything in order. But I tell you, he has already come, but he wasn't recognized, and he was badly mistreated. And soon the Son of Man will also suffer at their hands. Then the disciples realized he had been speaking of John the Baptist
(Matthew 17:11-13).

Jesus Christ, the Messiah, would be God the Son

Old Testament The king proclaims the LORD's decree: The LORD said to me, You are my son. Today I have become your Father
(Psalms 2:7).

Who but God goes up to heaven and comes back down? Who holds the wind in his fists? Who wraps up the oceans in his cloak? Who has created the whole wide world? What is his name- and his son's name? Tell me if you know!
(Proverbs 30:4).

New Testament If you had known who I am, then you would have known who my Father is. From now on you know him and have seen him!
(John 14:7).

And a voice from heaven said, This is my beloved Son, and I am fully pleased with him
(Matthew 3:17).

The ministry of Jesus Christ would begin in Galilee

Old Testament Nevertheless, that time of darkness and despair will not go on forever. The land of Zebulun and Naphtali will soon be humbled, but there will be a time in the future when Galilee of the Gentiles, which lies along the road that runs between the Jordan and the sea, will be filled with glory. The people who walk in darkness will see a great light- a light that will shine on all who live in the land where death casts its shadow
(Isaiah 9:1-2).
New Testament When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he left Judea and returned to Galilee. But instead of going to Nazareth, he went to Capernaum, beside the Sea of Galilee, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. This fulfilled Isaiah's prophecy: In the land of Zebulun and of Naphtali, beside the sea, beyond the Jordan River- in Galilee where so many Gentiles live- the people who sat in darkness have seen a great light. And for those who lived in the land where death casts its shadow, a light has shined. From then on, Jesus began to preach, Turn from your sins and turn to God, because the Kingdom of Heaven is near
(Matthew 4:12-17).

Jesus Christ would minister to the brokenhearted

Old Testament The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me, because the LORD has appointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to announce that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed. 2He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the time of the LORD's favor has come, and with it, the day of God's anger against their enemies. To all who mourn in Israel, he will give beauty for ashes, joy instead of mourning, praise instead of despair. For the LORD has planted them like strong and graceful oaks for his own glory
(Isaiah 61:1-3).
New Testament When he came to the village of Nazareth, his boyhood home, he went as usual to the synagogue on the Sabbath and stood up to read the Scriptures. The scroll containing the messages of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him, and he unrolled the scroll to the place where it says: The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has appointed me to preach Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the downtrodden will be freed from their oppressors, and that the time of the Lord's favor has come. He rolled up the scroll, handed it back to the attendant, and sat down. Everyone in the synagogue stared at him intently. Then he said, This Scripture has come true today before your very eyes!
(Luke 4:16-21).

Jesus Christ would heal the sick

Old Testament Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God for his own sins!
(Isaiah 53:4).

And when he comes, he will open the eyes of the blind and unstop the ears of the deaf. The lame will leap like a deer, and those who cannot speak will shout and sing! Springs will gush forth in the wilderness, and streams will water the desert
(Isaiah 35:5-6).

New Testament That evening many demon-possessed people were brought to Jesus. All the spirits fled when he commanded them to leave; and he healed all the sick. This fulfilled the word of the Lord through Isaiah, who said, He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases
(Matthew 8:16-17).

Then he told John's disciples, Go back to John and tell him what you have seen and heard- the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor
(Luke 7:22).

Jesus Christ would teach in parables

Old Testament O my people, listen to my teaching. Open your ears to what I am saying, for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past- stories we have heard and know, stories our ancestors handed down to us. We will not hide these truths from our children but will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the LORD. We will tell of his power and the mighty miracles he did
(Psalms 78:1-4).
New Testament Jesus always used stories and illustrations like these when speaking to the crowds. In fact, he never spoke to them without using such parables. This fulfilled the prophecy that said, I will speak to you in parables. I will explain mysteries hidden since the creation of the world
(Matthew 13:34-35).

Jesus Christ would preach righteousness

Old Testament I have told all your people about your justice. I have not been afraid to speak out, as you, O LORD, well know
(Psalms 40:9).
New Testament From then on, Jesus began to preach, Turn from your sins and turn to God, because the Kingdom of Heaven is near
(Matthew 4:17).

Jesus Christ would be meek

Old Testament He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led as a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth
(Isaiah 53:7).

2He will be gentle- he will not shout or raise his voice in public. He will not crush those who are weak or quench the smallest hope. He will bring full justice to all who have been wronged
(Isaiah 42:2-3).

New Testament Look at my Servant, whom I have chosen. He is my Beloved, and I am very pleased with him. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not fight or shout; he will not raise his voice in public. He will not crush those who are weak, or quench the smallest hope, until he brings full justice with his final victory
(Matthew 12:18-20).

Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls
(Matthew 11:29).

Jesus Christ would do the will of God the Father

Old Testament You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings. Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand- you don't require burnt offerings or sin offerings. Then I said, Look, I have come. And this has been written about me in your scroll: I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your law is written on my heart
(Psalms 40:6-8).
New Testament Then Jesus explained: My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work
(John 4:34).

That is why Christ, when he came into the world, said, You did not want animal sacrifices and grain offerings. But you have given me a body so that I may obey you. No, you were not pleased with animals burned on the altar or with other offerings for sin. Then I said, Look, I have come to do your will, O God- just as it is written about me in the Scriptures. Christ said, You did not want animal sacrifices or grain offerings or animals burned on the altar or other offerings for sin, nor were you pleased with them (though they are required by the law of Moses). Then he added, "Look, I have come to do your will. He cancels the first covenant in order to establish the second. And what God wants is for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all time
(Hebrews 10:5-10).

Jesus Christ would give rest to His children

Old Testament As with cattle going down into a peaceful valley, the Spirit of the LORD gave them rest. You led your people, LORD, and gained a magnificent reputation
(Isaiah 63:14).

So now the LORD says, Stop right where you are! Look for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls
(Jeremiah 6:16).

New Testament Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light
(Matthew 11:29-30).

Eternal life would come through faith in Jesus Christ

Old Testament Submit to God's royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of your pursuits- for his anger can flare up in an instant. But what joy for all who find protection in him!
(Psalms 2:12).
New Testament But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life
(John 20:31).

Jesus Christ would be zealous for the Lord's House

Old Testament I will bring them also to my holy mountain of Jerusalem and will fill them with joy in my house of prayer. I will accept their burnt offerings and sacrifices, because my Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations
(Isaiah 56:7).

Do you think this Temple, which honors my name, is a den of thieves? I see all the evil going on there, says the LORD
(Jeremiah 7:11).

New Testament He said, The Scriptures declare, My Temple will be called a place of prayer, but you have turned it into a den of thieves!
(Matthew 21:13).

Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: Passion for God's house burns within me
(John 2:17).

Jesus Christ would speak the Wisdom of God

Old Testament for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past-
(Psalms 78:2).
New Testament ...for he taught as one who had real authority- quite unlike the teachers of religious law
(Matthew 7:29).

Jesus Christ would minister to gentiles

Old Testament Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, and I am pleased with him. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will reveal justice to the (gentile) nations
(Isaiah 42:1).

Listen to me, all of you in far-off lands! The LORD called me before my birth; from within the womb he called me by name
(Isaiah 49:1).

New Testament Look at my Servant, whom I have chosen. He is my Beloved, and I am very pleased with him. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not fight or shout; he will not raise his voice in public. He will not crush those who are weak, or quench the smallest hope, until he brings full justice with his final victory. And his name will be the hope of all the world
(Matthew 12:18-21).

He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!
(Luke 2:32).

Jesus Christ would go about doing good

Old Testament They repay me evil for good and oppose me because I stand for the right
(Psalms 38:20).
New Testament And no doubt you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the Devil, for God was with him
(Acts 10:38).

Jesus Christ would have a Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem

Old Testament Rejoice greatly, O people of Zion! Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem! Look, your king is coming to you. He is righteous and victorious, yet he is humble, riding on a donkey- even on a donkey's colt
(Zechariah 9:9).
New Testament The two disciples did as Jesus said. They brought the animals to him and threw their garments over the colt, and he sat on it. Most of the crowd spread their coats on the road ahead of Jesus, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9He was in the center of the procession, and the crowds all around him were shouting, Praise God for the Son of David! Bless the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Praise God in highest heaven! The entire city of Jerusalem was stirred as he entered. Who is this? they asked. And the crowds replied, It's Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee
(Matthew 21:6-11).

The Prophetic Truths About The Second Ministry of Jesus Christ
During His Futuristic Second Coming:

Jesus Christ will be the governor of the nations

Old Testament The whole earth will acknowledge the LORD and return to him. People from every nation will bow down before him. For the LORD is king! He rules all the nations
(Psalms 22:27-28).
New Testament For it was in Him that all things were created, in heaven and on earth, things seen and things unseen, whether thrones, dominions, rulers, or authorities; All things were created and exist through Him (by His service, intervention) and in and for Him (Amplified Bible)
(Colossians 1:16).

Jesus Christ will honored by mighty world rulers

Old Testament All nations will come to your light. Mighty kings will come to see your radiance
(Isaiah 60:3).
New Testament ...the wise men went their way. Once again the star appeared to them, guiding them to Bethlehem. It went ahead of them and stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house where the child and his mother, Mary, were, and they fell down before him and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh
(Matthew 2:9-11).

Jesus Christ will judge the world in righteousness

Old Testament But the LORD reigns forever, executing judgment from his throne. He will judge the world with justice and rule the nations with fairness. The LORD is a shelter for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, have never abandoned anyone who searches for you
(Psalms 9:7-10).
New Testament For he has set a day for judging the world with justice by the man he has appointed, and he proved to everyone who this is by raising him from the dead
(Acts 17:31).

Jesus Christ will rule the nations with a rod of iron

Old Testament Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the ends of the earth as your possession. You will break them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots
(Psalms 2:8 and 9).
New Testament From his mouth came a sharp sword, and with it he struck down the nations. He ruled them with an iron rod, and he trod the winepress of the fierce wrath of almighty God
(Revelation 19:15).

All nations shall be blessed by Jesus Christ

Old Testament May the king's name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun shines. May all nations be blessed through him and bring him praise
(Psalms 72:17).
New Testament What's more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would accept the Gentiles, too, on the basis of their faith. God promised this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, All nations will be blessed through you
(Galatians 3:8).

Life is not a problem to be solved
but a gift to be enjoyed.

The Prophetic Titles of Jesus Christ:

Jesus Christ is Emmanuel (God With Us)

Old Testament All right then, the Lord himself will choose the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel- God is with us
(Isaiah 7:14).
New Testament As he considered this, he fell asleep, and an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. Joseph, son of David, the angel said, do not be afraid to go ahead with your marriage to Mary.

God also said, Tell them, The LORD, the God of your ancestors- the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob- has sent me to you. In that day the LORD will end the bondage of his people. He will break the yoke of slavery and lift it from their shoulders
(Isaiah 10:26-27).
New Testament And, Lord, in the beginning you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. Even they will perish, but you remain forever. This way she can have a son to carry on the family name of her dead husband and to inherit the family property here in his hometown. You are all witnesses today
(Ruth 4:9-10).

And remember, no one is allowed to leave the house until morning. For the LORD will pass through the land and strike down the Egyptians. But when he sees the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe, the LORD will pass over your home. He will not permit the Destroyer to enter and strike down your firstborn. Remember, these instructions are permanent and must be observed by you and your descendants forever. When you arrive in the land the LORD has promised to give you, you will continue to celebrate this festival. Then your children will ask, What does all this mean? What is this ceremony about? And you will reply, It is the celebration of the LORD's Passover, for he passed over the homes of the Israelites in Egypt. And though he killed the Egyptians, he spared our families and did not destroy us. Then all the people bowed their heads and worshiped
(Exodus 12:21-27).
New Testament Remove this wicked person from among you so that you can stay pure. Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us
(1 Corinthians 5:7).

Jesus Christ is THE WAY to heaven

Old Testament As he slept, he dreamed of a stairway that reached from earth to heaven. And he saw the angels of God going up and down on it
(Genesis 28:12).
New Testament Then he said, The truth is, you will all see heaven open and the angels of God going up and down upon the Son of Man
(John 1:51).

You are never too bad to come in to the church
or
too good to stay out of the church

The Prophetic Revelations of Righteousness Concerning Jesus Christ:

Jesus Christ would have Faithfulness in His character

Old Testament No, I will not break my covenant; I will not take back a single word I said. I have sworn an oath to David, and in my holiness I cannot lie
(Psalms 89:34-35).
New Testament ...and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness to these things, the first to rise from the dead, and the commander of all the rulers of the world
(Revelation 1:5).

Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. And the one sitting on the horse was named Faithful and True. For he judges fairly and then goes to war
(Revelation 19:11).

ð     ð     ð     ð     ð

Jesus Christ would have Holiness in Character

Old Testament Who else among the gods is like you, O LORD? Who is glorious in holiness like you- so awesome in splendor, performing such wonders?
(Exodus 15:11).

For the LORD declares, I have placed my chosen king on the throne in Jerusalem, my holy city
(Psalms 2:6).

New Testament That is what has happened here in this city! For Herod Antipas, Pontius Pilate the governor, the Gentiles, and the people of Israel were all united against Jesus, your holy servant, whom you anointed
(Acts 4:27).

Write this letter to the angel of the church in Philadelphia. This is the message from the one who is holy and true. He is the one who has the key of David. He opens doors, and no one can shut them; he shuts doors, and no one can open them
(Revelation 3:7).

ð     ð     ð     ð     ð

Jesus Christ would show Mercy

Old Testament The LORD replied, I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, the LORD, to you. I will show kindness to anyone I choose, and I will show mercy to anyone I choose
(Exodus 33:19).
New Testament He has been merciful to our ancestors by remembering his sacred covenant with them-
(Luke 1:72).

Labors of love
never weary

The Prophetic Truths Concerning the Betrayal, Crucifixion, and Death of Jesus Christ:

Jesus Christ would be hated for no plausible reason

Old Testament Don't let my treacherous enemies rejoice over my defeat. Don't let those who hate me without cause gloat over my sorrow
(Psalms 35:19).

Those who hate me without cause are more numerous than the hairs on my head. These enemies who seek to destroy me are doing so without cause. They attack me with lies, demanding that I give back what I didn't steal
(Psalms 69:4).

New Testament This has fulfilled what the Scriptures said: They hated me without cause
(John 15:25).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

The enemies of Jesus Christ wanted Him put to death

Old Testament I have heard the many rumors about me, and I am surrounded by terror. My enemies conspire against me, plotting to take my life
(Psalms 31:13).
New Testament Very early in the morning, the leading priests and other leaders met again to discuss how to persuade the Roman government to sentence Jesus to death
(Matthew 27:1).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would be betrayed by a friend

Old Testament Even my best friend, the one I trusted completely, the one who shared my food, has turned against me
(Psalms 41:9).

It is not an enemy who taunts me- I could bear that. It is not my foes who so arrogantly insult me- I could have hidden from them. Instead, it is you- my equal, my companion and close friend. What good fellowship we enjoyed as we walked together to the house of God
(Psalms 55:12-14).

New Testament I am not saying these things to all of you; I know so well each one of you I chose. The Scriptures declare, The one who shares my food has turned against me, and this will soon come true
(John 13:18).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would be betrayed for thirty pieces of silver

Old Testament And I said to them, If you like, give me my wages, whatever I am worth; but only if you want to. So they counted out for my wages thirty pieces of silver
(Zechariah 11:12-13).
New Testament Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve disciples, went to the leading priests and asked, How much will you pay me to betray Jesus to you? And they gave him thirty pieces of silver
(Matthew 26:14-15).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would be taken by enemies (in the Garden)

Old Testament May those who try to destroy me be humiliated and put to shame. May those who take delight in my trouble be turned back in disgrace
(Psalms 40:14).

He has cut me down in midlife, shortening my days. But I cried to him, My God, who lives forever, don't take my life while I am still so young!
(Psalms 102:23-24).

I have heard the many rumors about me, and I am surrounded by terror. My enemies conspire against me, plotting to take my life
(Psalms 31:13).

New Testament Jesus fully realized all that was going to happen to him. Stepping forward to meet them, he asked, Whom are you looking for? Jesus of Nazareth, they replied. I am he, Jesus said. Judas was standing there with them when Jesus identified himself. And as he said, I am he, they all fell backward to the ground!
(John 18:4-6).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would face false witnesses

Old Testament Malicious witnesses testify against me. They accuse me of things I don't even know about
(Psalms 35:11).
New Testament Inside, the leading priests and the entire high council were trying to find witnesses who would lie about Jesus, so they could put him to death
(Matthew 26:59).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would be silent before His accusers

Old Testament Meanwhile, my enemies lay traps for me; they make plans to ruin me. They think up treacherous deeds all day long. But I am deaf to all their threats. I am silent before them as one who cannot speak
(Psalms 38:12-13).
New Testament But when the leading priests and other leaders made their accusations against him, Jesus remained silent. Don't you hear their many charges against you? Pilate demanded. But Jesus said nothing, much to the governor's great surprise
(Matthew 27:12-14).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would be spit upon

Old Testament I give my back to those who beat me and my cheeks to those who pull out my beard. I do not hide from shame, for they mock me and spit in my face
(Isaiah 50:6).
New Testament And they spit on him and grabbed the stick and beat him on the head with it
(Matthew 27:30).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would be whipped

Old Testament My back is covered with cuts, as if a farmer had plowed long furrows
(Psalms 129:3).
New Testament So Pilate released Barabbas to them. He ordered Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to crucify him
(Matthew 27:26).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would be crucified

Old Testament My life is poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax, melting within me. My strength has dried up like sunbaked clay. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You have laid me in the dust and left me for dead
(Psalms 22:14-15).
New Testament So they took Jesus and led him away. Carrying the cross by himself, Jesus went to the place called Skull Hill (in Hebrew, Golgotha). There they crucified him
(John 19:17-18).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Not a bone of Jesus Christ would be broken on the cross

Old Testament They must not leave any of the lamb until the next morning, and they must not break any of its bones. They must follow all the normal regulations concerning the Passover
(Numbers 9:12).
New Testament But when they came to Jesus, they saw that he was dead already, so they didn't break his legs
(John 19:33).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Hostile people would watch Jesus Christ on the cross

Old Testament You have caused my friends to loathe me; you have sent them all away. I am in a trap with no way of escape
(Psalms 88:8).
New Testament The soldiers mocked him, too, by offering him a drink of sour wine. They called out to him, If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!
(Luke 23:36).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

The friends of Jesus Christ would watch Him on the cross

Old Testament My loved ones and friends stay away, fearing my disease. Even my own family stands at a distance
(Psalms 38:11).
New Testament But Jesus' friends, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance watching
(Luke 23:49).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would die outside of Jerusalem

Old Testament The bull and goat given as sin offerings, whose blood Aaron brought into the Most Holy Place to make atonement for Israel, will be carried outside the camp to be burned
(Leviticus 16:27).
New Testament Then they went out to a place called Golgotha (which means Skull Hill)
(Matthew 27:33).

Under the system of Jewish laws, the high priest brought the blood of animals into the Holy Place as a sacrifice for sin, but the bodies of the animals were burned outside the camp. So also Jesus suffered and died outside the city gates in order to make his people holy by shedding his own blood
(Hebrews 13:11-12).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Darkness would descend upon Calvary for several hours

Old Testament ...there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night-
(Psalms 139:10-11).
New Testament At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o'clock
(Matthew 27:45).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

The hands and feet of Jesus Christ would be pierced

Old Testament My enemies surround me like a pack of dogs; an evil gang closes in on me. They have pierced my hands and feet
(Psalms 22:16).
New Testament One of the soldiers, however, pierced his side with a spear, and blood and water flowed out...and They will look on him whom they pierced
(John 19:34 and verse 37).

Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here and see my hands. Put your hand into the wound in my side. Don't be faithless any longer. Believe!
(John 20:27).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would be stripped of His clothing in public

Old Testament I can count every bone in my body. My enemies stare at me and gloat. They divide my clothes among themselves and throw dice for my garments
(Psalms 22:17-18).
New Testament Jesus said, Father, forgive these people, because they don't know what they are doing. And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice. The crowd watched, and the leaders laughed and scoffed. He saved others, they said, let him save himself if he is really God's Chosen One, the Messiah
(Luke 23:34-35).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would have His clothing gambled for

Old Testament They divide my clothes among themselves and throw dice for my garments
(Psalms 22:18 ).
New Testament When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes among the four of them. They also took his robe, but it was seamless, woven in one piece from the top. So they said, Let's not tear it but throw dice to see who gets it. This fulfilled the Scripture that says, They divided my clothes among themselves and threw dice for my robe. So that is what they did
(John 19:23-24 ).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would cry out from the cross that He was thirsty

Old Testament My strength has dried up like sunbaked clay. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth
(Psalms 22:15).
New Testament Jesus knew that everything was now finished, and to fulfill the Scriptures he said, I am thirsty
(John 19:28).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would be offered bitter "liquid aspirin" on the cross

Old Testament But instead, they give me poison for food; they offer me sour wine to satisfy my thirst
(Psalms 69:21).
New Testament The soldiers gave him wine mixed with bitter gall, but when he had tasted it, he refused to drink it
(Matthew 27:34).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would be ridiculed while on the cross

Old Testament I am an object of mockery to people everywhere; when they see me, they shake their heads
(Psalms 109:25).

Everyone who sees me mocks me. They sneer and shake their heads, saying, Is this the one who relies on the LORD? Then let the LORD save him! If the LORD loves him so much, let the LORD rescue him!
(Psalms 22:7-8).

New Testament And the people passing by shouted abuse, shaking their heads in mockery. So! You can destroy the Temple and build it again in three days, can you? Well then, if you are the Son of God, save yourself and come down from the cross! The leading priests, the teachers of religious law, and the other leaders also mocked Jesus. He saved others, they scoffed, but he can't save himself! So he is the king of Israel, is he? Let him come down from the cross, and we will believe in him! He trusted God- let God show his approval by delivering him! For he said, I am the Son of God. And the criminals who were crucified with him also shouted the same insults at him
(Matthew 27:39-44).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Blood and water would ooze out of the side of Jesus Christ from a spear wound

Old Testament My life is poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like wax, melting within me
(Psalms 22:14).
New Testament One of the soldiers, however, pierced his side with a spear, and blood and water flowed out
(John 19:34).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

God would temporarily turn away from Jesus Christ on the cross as He became sin for you and me

Old Testament My God, my God! Why have you forsaken me? Why do you remain so distant? Why do you ignore my cries for help?
(Psalms 22:1).
New Testament At about three o'clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani? which means, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
(Matthew 27:46).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would cry from the cross "It is finished"

Old Testament But in my distress I cried out to the LORD (it is finished); yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry reached his ears
(Psalms 18:6).
New Testament When Jesus had tasted it, he said, It is finished! Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit
(John 19:30).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ Would Die for the sins of the world

Old Testament From prison and trial they led him away to his death. But who among the people realized that he was dying for their sins- that he was suffering their punishment?
(Isaiah 53:8).
New Testament He is the sacrifice for our sins. He takes away not only our sins but the sins of all the world
(1 John 2:2).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

The body of Jesus Christ would be buried in a rich man's grave

Old Testament He had done no wrong, and he never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man's grave
(Isaiah 53:9).
New Testament As evening approached, Joseph, a rich man from Arimathea who was one of Jesus followers, went to Pilate and asked for Jesus body. And Pilate issued an order to release it to him. Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a long linen cloth. He placed it in his own new tomb, which had been carved out of the rock
(Matthew 27:57-60).

¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤     ¤

Jesus Christ would resurrect- His body would not rot in the grave

Old Testament For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your godly one to rot in the grave
(Psalms 16:10).
New Testament Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay
(Acts 2:31).

Another psalm explains more fully, saying, You will not allow your Holy One to rot in the grave
(Acts 13:35).

The Prophetic Truths Concerning the Resurrection & Ascension of Jesus Christ:

Jesus Christ would be resurrected from the grave

Old Testament No wonder my heart is filled with joy, and my mouth shouts his praises! My body rests in safety. For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your godly one to rot in the grave. You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever
(Psalms 16:9-11).
New Testament The women were terrified and bowed low before them. Then the men asked, Why are you looking in a tomb for someone who is alive? He isn't here! He has risen from the dead! Don't you remember what he told you back in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again the third day?
(Luke 24:5-7).

Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see. The other disciple outran Peter and got there first. He stooped and looked in and saw the linen cloth lying there, but he didn't go in. Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus' head was folded up and lying to the side. Then the other disciple also went in, and he saw and believed- for until then they hadn't realized that the Scriptures said he would rise from the dead. Then they went home
(John 20:3-10).

¶     ¶     ¶     ¶     ¶     ¶     ¶

Jesus Christ would Ascend into Heaven

Old Testament When you ascended to the heights, you led a crowd of captives. You received gifts from the people, even from those who rebelled against you. Now the LORD God will live among us here
(Psalms 68:18).
New Testament When the Lord Jesus had finished talking with them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down in the place of honor at God's right hand
(Mark 16:19).

Then Jesus led them to Bethany, and lifting his hands to heaven, he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up to heaven. They worshiped him and then returned to Jerusalem filled with great joy. And they spent all of their time in the Temple, praising God
(Luke 24:50-53).

¶     ¶     ¶     ¶     ¶     ¶     ¶

Jesus Christ would return to the Mount of Olives

Old Testament On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives will split apart, making a wide valley running from east to west, for half the mountain will move toward the north and half toward the south
(Zechariah 14:4).
New Testament They said, Men of Galilee, why are you standing here staring at the sky? Jesus has been taken away from you into heaven. And someday, just as you saw him go, he will return! The apostles were at the Mount of Olives when this happened, so they walked the half mile back to Jerusalem
(Acts 1:11-12).

¶     ¶     ¶     ¶     ¶     ¶     ¶

Jesus Christ would deal a deadly blow to Satan and Satan's kingdom- "bruise Satan's head"

Old Testament From now on, you and the woman will be enemies, and your offspring and her offspring will be enemies. He will crush your head, and you will strike his heel
(Genesis 3:15).
New Testament Because God's children are human beings- made of flesh and blood- Jesus also became flesh and blood by being born in human form. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the Devil, who had the power of death
(Hebrews 2:14).

CONCLUSION VERSE

But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in Him you will have life
(John 20:31).
