Some of my thoughts on phoney and false religions
by
Kraig J. Rice
So, where do phoney, false religions and cults come from? Well, like from anything else in
the world they come from people- people who have been deceived by the devil. Is that
shocking to you? Well, it shouldn't be because the Bible gives us
Warnings against False Teachers:
"Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away
from what we believe; they will follow lying spirits and teachings that come from demons.
These teachers are hypocrites and liars. They pretend to be religious, but their
consciences are dead"
(1 Timothy 4:1-2).
A false religion or cult always starts with a man or a woman- one whom the devil has
approached and deceived in some way. With the Prophet Mohammed it was a visit by the angel
in the cave, with Joseph Smith it was a visit by the angel Moroni, with Emanuel Swedenborg it was
the visit by a dark shadowy figure at night, and on and on the list goes. The words that are spoken
by the devilish visitor always are in direct contradiction to God's Holy Bible. Why? Because
in the beginning Lucifer wanted to be God and pull down God off of His throne. He failed in
that attempt so now he has his fallen angels looking for those he can deceive. Many folks
and the founders of cults and false religions get caught up in their own pride and disregard
the Holy Bible without really studying and believing it. Each of them makes a choice to
reject God, reject His Word, reject the deity of Jesus Christ, and reject the fact that Jesus
Christ is the only way to Heaven. This is exactly what the devil wants. When the devil
tempted Jesus to abandon the human race, Jesus quoted scriptures from God's Word. Satan
wanted Jesus to abandon His mission to save human beings. Jesus didn't argue with Satan,
but, instead, clearly quoted from the Bible, "it is written." Jesus believed the
Bible and you can build your faith solidly on God's Word as well.
There is no hidden meaning to the Bible, but you might have to study diligently to rightly
divide (interpret) His word (to really understand what the Bible says). The Bible does
represent the very mind of God and the meaning is right there on the surface for you and
me to discover. God does NOT give only one man or woman the keys of the Bible for us to go
through his or her special intellect to come to God. This is one of the hallmarks of a real
cult for those who are deceived into that system founded on that premise.
What did the Apostle Peter say about this?
"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private
interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of
God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost"
(2 Peter 1:20-21) KJV
And remember, Jesus said,
"Scripture can't be broken"
(John 10:35).
Did Jesus ever use the Word of God again? Yes, one time two of His disciples were walking
to the Village of Emmaus. They were wondering why Jesus had to be crucified. Jesus personally
came to them and quoted scriptures from the Word of God to answer their question. Then He
opened their understanding (so that they got it) and disappeared
(Luke 24:13 and following).
Beware of any individual who claims to have a "new meaning" of God's Word and that
they are the only person alive who understands the real mysteries of the universe. This is a
lie. This is the pride of life like Eve in the Garden of Eden reaching for the forbidden
fruit in the hope of reaching god-hood. Many of these kinds of individuals find it easy to
cross the line from science to spiritualism where they find an encounter with the devil
to be a powerful event in their life. Then that person plunges deeper and deeper into the
world of the occult. He or she obtains certain gifts from the devil- gifts used to help
deceive other people. These evil spirits will communicate with that person and the more he
or she dabbles in spiritualism, the more the spirits will reveal. Then that person puts his
or her faith in those spirits. Satan gets the worship that he craves. Then that person gets
convinced that those spirits have chosen him or her as a messenger to the world. The messages he or
she receives become more and more un-biblical as he or she is lead down a spiritually
dangerous path. This path leads to cultic doctrine that casts doubt on God's Holy Bible.
The Bible teaches that there are 2 different roads or pathways. Stay on the spiritual road of obedience
to God. The other spiritual road leads to destruction. Here is what the Bible warns:
"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth
to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat"
(Matthew 7:13).
"Do not rely on mediums and psychics, for you will be defiled by them. I, the LORD,
am your God"
(Leviticus 19:31).
"So why are you trying to find out the future by consulting mediums and psychics?
Do not listen to their whisperings and mutterings. Can the living find out the future
from the dead? Why not ask your God?
"Check their predictions against my testimony," says the LORD. "If their
predictions are different from mine, it is because there is no light or truth in them"
(Isaiah 8:19-21).
People act strangely different after they get sucked into the occult. They can really act
weird in many ways. The evil spirit world is bad news for any true Christian and if you
are traveling down this pathway I recommend that you get off of it back onto God's pathway.
In that lifestyle you will encounter unbiblical words of theology. When one dabbles in that
spirit world one gets caught in a web of deceit. Some knowledge is strictly forbidden by
God to you because God loves you too much for you to build your life on a lie. God's Word
is the truth. Rely on God rather than on what some spiritual cultic teacher might say.
Put your hand in the hand of Jesus and walk with Him down His pathway that leads to truth
and freedom.
